Four Amish Youth Buggy Drag Race in Upstate NY; Crash into Police Car, Charged with Using Alcohol

The Huffington Post website reports today (March 13, 2012) that four Amish youths were charged with underage drinking, after they crashed their horse-drawn buggy into a police cruiser in upstate New York.

Last Sunday night, police were dispatched to the town of Sherman -- located about 90 miles south of Buffalo -- in response to complaints about Amish youths drinking and drag racing their horses and carriages on the road, said Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace.

When police came, one of the buggies ended up crashing into the patrol car. The buggy flipped over, and the horse broke free and ran to a nearby barn.

Four youths -- aged 18 to 20 -- were charged with underage possession of alcohol.
